Toaru Majutsu no Index 14 – 5 Reasons Why Accelerator Should Have Won

1) Accelerator is theoretically indestructable. Given Accelerator’s powers, one can reverse the direction of projectiles and melee attacks from an opponent. He can even mess with his opponent’s bloodflow, virtually killing him. Taking Kamijou’s abilities into consideration, Accelerator could overwhelm him with speed instead of charging at him head-on.

2) Accelerator spent a long time creating plasma, he could have easily killed Kamijou by firing projectiles.

3) Accelerator can do so much more with his abilities other than charging a spirit bomb/creating plasma. For example, crushing Kamijou by increasing the air pressure. Or even smiting him with a heavily accelerated object.

4) Technically speaking, Accelerator can float in the air by altering his acceleration and velocity due to gravity. He’ll be out of reach and can carry out point 3. Hence he is invulnerable.

5) Accelerator spent too much time talking, which he could have used to destroy his opponent

Anyway, there are many reasons I could think of to explain why Accelerator should have won, a prominent one being the adaptability of Accelerator’s abilities in different situations.  Unfortunately there wouldn’t be a show if the main character were dead. Hence the plot had to override common sense and have Accelerator lose.

The music placed at the ending felt mildly emotional,  the scene however, was hardly convincing as there wasn’t enough strong plot development earlier to justify the emotions. I do hope this would be worked on in future arcs as it feels awkward to watch someone cry with a reason which hasn’t been explained thoroughly.

It looks like the next episode would contain a modicum of fanservice as the characters head off to the beach. At least this is backed up with what seems to be Kamijou cross-dressing and refraining from telling people what’s “right”…

  1. Dear sir….your whole post is based in one simple fallacy: It’s a fictional story. Common sense about physics doesn’t apply in the realm of televised entertainment.

There is also several aspects you have failed to ignore, let me expose them:

    1) Accelerator’s biggest asset is also his main weakness. Due to having a constant vector field around his body, his Uv and sunlight intake is very low, giving origin to his pale skin and hair. That also reflects on his lower physical strenght. Besides, his speed takes into account the amount of G force an human body can take. taking into account Kamijou’s ability to nulify his vector field, once he enters range, he can pummel him easily, as he did.

    2) He has trying to kill Kamijou with projectiles all the fight and it wasn’t working….Besides, as he stated, he was trying a new move in-battle. don’t forget that Accelerator is very egocentrical and with delusions of grandeur due to his previous kills of the Sisters (killing 10,000 girls would make you think that way)

    3) Accelerator would have to be in touch with Kamijou to be able to crush him with air pressure….and once again, you tend to forget how exactly Accelerator powers work: he changes vectors of objects that he’s touching. Once the force is applied and it’s away from his contact, he can’t control it. As Kamijou displayed, he dodged all the objects.

    4) He can’t float, since the air wouldn’t give him a stable foothold where he can apply his powers, altough he can jump far by applying an impulse vector under his feet.

    5) He’s a fucking egocentrical kid who had killed 10000 clones. I would be talkative too while pummeling “lesser beings”.

  2. I will give you one very clear reason as to why Accelerator did not win.

    1.He’s stupid.

  3. @extrange: Thank you for pointing that out, I guess I was too carried away with rooting for Accelerator.

  4. @novice: heh, np. And don’t you worry, Accelerator will redeem himself later in the plot, fufufu….

  5. The real reason ” becoz the paths between Magic and Science have crossed.”
Both can’t explain each other: obligatory plot hole.

  7. @Extrange He “can” float, people fail to realize that he can control “all” vectors with his power and since gravity can be affected by vector control all he has to do is

A)Turn all gravity affecting him to 0

B)Now that he is no longer affected by gravity he can “accelerate” himself at will

Accelerator also happens to be a total genius, he calculated the localized wind vectors instantaniously and with enough accuracy to create plasma that’s savant level at the very least and considering the fact he dosen’t seem to have any disabilities I assume he’s a genius instead of an idiot savant

The reason he lost, 1: Plot induced stupidity 2: He’s batshit crazy
